What Is a Six-Max / Short-Handed Tournament?

Six-max sets a smaller table capacity. It is a table-size format, not a separate deck, hand ranking, or payout type.

THE CORE RULE

How does Six-Max / Short-Handed work?

The smaller table changes how often blinds arrive and how positions are named. The event may also be turbo, PKO, re-entry, or another format.

Prizes and payouts

Payouts and prizes are determined separately by the event listing.

This is a tournament structure, not a poker game. The event can use Hold'em, Omaha, or another published game. Always read that event's rules and prize schedule.

AT THE TABLE

A practical example.

A six-max MTT can have hundreds of entrants, but each active table seats no more than six at a time.

BEFORE YOU REGISTER

What should you verify?

Check whether the final table uses six seats and how the event handles short tables or table balancing.

Operator and venue rules control the exact entry, blind, bounty, payout, and cancellation terms. Poker TDA's tournament procedures cover a different layer of tournament play.

QUICK RULES CHECK

Can a six-max event have more than six total entrants?
